The occasion was a ‘Welcome Ceremony’ which saw the signing of a Landmark Agreement between the NESC, a Training Agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education, and Qess Consulting Inc. of Nigeria. Under this Agreement, one hundred (100) Nigerian Nationals (in the first instance) will be trained in Automotive Services Maintenance, Heavy Equipment Operations and Maintenance, Shielded Metal Arc Welding and Millwright over the next six (6) months.

Qess Consulting Inc., a limited liability company under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Godfrey Paul, is a full-service human resource and training company committed to providing nationals of Nigeria with quality, hands-on training. The Agreement is the culmination of negotiations between Qess Consulting Inc. and the NESC under the guidance of the Ministry of Science Technology and Tertiary Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications, and the Nigerian High Commission. This is the first time that the NESC will be conducting training of this magnitude with an international partner. The company however, is well poised to undertake the challenge having this year attained ISO 9001:2008 certification. NESC’s over fourteen years of experience in delivering industry-driven training, its cadre of highly skilled instructors, along with its industry approved facilities made it an ideal choice for Qess Consulting Inc.

Both His Excellency Musa John Jen, Nigerian High Commissioner and Mr. Gerard Greene, Director Bi-lateral Relations Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications, who delivered a statement on behalf of the Honourable Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communications, expressed full support for the venture and underscored in their respective addresses, the mutual benefits to be derived from the training arrangement. Mr. Daniel Lambert, Co-Chairman of the Nigeria/Trinidad and Tobago Chamber also brought greetings from the Chamber and noted the importance of the Agreement to the deepening of commercial ties between Trinidad and Tobago and Nigeria.

In a speech delivered at the Welcome Ceremony on behalf of Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education by the Honourable Rudranath Indarsingh, Member of Parliament for Couva South, and Minister in the Ministry of Local Government, the significance of the Agreement was noted as follows “…this Historical Agreement today shows the strength of our Service Sector and indeed our Technical/ Vocational Sector to attract the attention of a significant player in a nation 100 times our size from the opposite side of the globe.” The highlight of the afternoon’s proceedings was the actual signing of the Training Agreement by Chairman of the NESC, Mr. Feeroz Khan and Chief Executive Officer of Qess Consulting Inc. Mr. Godfrey Paul. This formal cementing of the training partnership was
met with hearty applause from the one hundred Nigerian trainees, all donned in NESC coveralls, as well as other invited guests. The Management Team and members of Staff of both NESC and Qess Consulting Inc. were also on hand to share in the momentous occasion.

The training which commenced on December 5 is just the beginning of the relationship between Qess Consulting Inc and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education as there are already plans in place to have more Nigerian nationals benefit from training programmes offered by the NESC and other agencies under the Ministry’s purview. In the coming months as well, the NESC will play a significant role in other collaborations with international significance and impact as it goes beyond its corporate promise of ‘’developing our nation, skill by skill’.
