Apprenticeship Training

Apprenticeship Training

Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training, work experience and technical training in a trade.
The NESC Apprenticeship programmes last 3 to 4 years, depending on the trade. Time is spent at our centres learning the theory, technologies and skills behind a specific trade. This is called the technical training component of the programme. Apprentices spend time learning ‘on-the-job’ and building work experience alongside  qualified tradesperson..

There are currently four (4) Apprenticeship programmes offered:

These programmes are accredited locally by the National Training Agency (NTA) and internationally by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board in Canada (AIT). In addition to attaining local certification, apprentices can challenge the Canadian Red Seal Examination at the end of their Apprenticeship. This dual certification gives graduates regional and international recognition and mobility.

The following Apprenticeship programmes will be introduced by the NESC in the coming months:

  • Air-conditioning and Refrigeration
  • Construction Craft
  • Masonry & Tiling
  • Joinery & Cabinet Making
  • Plumbing
  • Carpentry
