Graduates from this programme may choose self employment as a very viable option of employment. Alternatively, they may be attracted to jobs in any industry, under the maintenance and repairs of the electrical system in residential or commercial entities. Graduates may seek employment in the Construction / Manufacturing Industry as well as the Energy industry.

This programme entails planning, layout and installation of wiring, electrical fixtures, panels, cable trays, splicing, wire-pulling, apparatus and control equipment. Additionally, it includes blueprint reading and diagrams, safe work habits, proper selection and use of hand / power tools, communications, applicable codes and precision measurement.
Upon completion of this programme the trainee should be proficient in the following areas:

- Select and use common electrical tools
- Identify colour codes in accordance with the NEC
- Terminate, splice, solder and reinsulate conductors in accordance
with the NEC 29/11/07
- Explain and apply Ohm’s law for electrical installations
- Explain and apply Kirchhoff’s voltage and current laws for electrical installations
- Select and use electrical test equipment
- Bend and install PVC and EMT conduit in accordance with the NEC
- Bend, thread and install rigid metal conduit in accordance with the NEC
- Cut and install PVC trunking, metal trunking and cable trays in accordance
with the NEC
